For those hoping for a Charlie Sheen Two and a Half Men comeback ... you may have to keep on dreaming. The Hollywood Reporter claims that the former CBS star will not be returning to the series, despite him saying that he does want to go back for a "series farewell" –– allegedly.

THR notes that Warner Bros. Television has denied rumors (earlier reported by TV Guide) that Sheen has reached out to them about a return. In the story, the publication claimed that Sheen told them both sides were "trying to figure out what makes the most sense" in terms of how Charlie Harper could somehow enter the story yet again.

Sheen did reach out to the series' creator Chuck Lorre, however, via Twitter back in 2013, saying that he had an idea for a return storyline that he'd love to pitch the writer-producer –– "after I make amends to you and yours," he added. Unfortunately, nothing came from the tweet.

Back in July, CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler told press that the network was not in talks with Sheen.

So, who knows what to believe?

Sheen was famously fired from Two and a Half Men back in 2011 after many years of playing the comical jingle-writer following a string of public comments directed towards Lorre, CBS and Warner Bros.

Of course, like always, the actor ended up just fine. He found a home on FX, where he's been playing the roll of Charlie Goodson on Anger Management since 2012. The series was picked up by the network for 100 episodes following Sheen's public "meltdown." It's now nearing the end of that deal.
