The home of San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald was broken into over the weekend, the Los Angeles Times is reporting.

According to the L.A. paper, the burglary occurred on Saturday night in San Jose when McDonald and his 49ers teammates were in Phoenix, preparing to play the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium the next day. (The Niners fell to the Cardinals, 23-14, on Sunday.)

San Jose police Sgt. Heather Randol confirmed to ESPN that several personal items were stolen from McDonald's home and that no arrests have been made in the case.

Officer Albert Morales revealed a few more details to SFGate.com, noting that a call was made to the police station at 10:47 p.m. to alert officers of a break-in on the 2500 block of Bentley Ridge Road. When police arrived, the house was vacant and had clearly been broken into.

Neighbors in the area informed reporters on the scene that this is not the first time a home in McDonald's neighborhood had been burglarized, though it remains unclear whether his home was specifically targeted in this instance or whether he was simply next in line to get hit.

Although McDonald was in Arizona to play - and he did, notching two tackles and an assist - many fans are claiming he never should have traveled with the team to begin with.

As a handful of other players in the league - including Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson - have been suspended for their involvement in domestic violence abuse cases, McDonald was arrested on Aug. 31 for allegedly attacking his pregnant fiancée and has been allowed to play.

"The 49ers organization is aware of the recent reports regarding Ray McDonald and we take such matters seriously," said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke in a statement at the time of McDonald's arrest. "As we continue to gather the facts, we will reserve further comment."
