Hummels is widely considered one of the best center backs in the world, and he would be affordable if Dortmund were to find out he wanted to leave. United were linked with him all summer long, but they insisted he wasn't for sale. Perhaps a bigger bid, with plenty of incentives could soon change both the club and player's minds. He would add leadership to a back-line that has almost no experience. Other options include Ron Vlaar and Diego Godin, if they cannot land their top target.

United also chased box-to-box midfielder Vidal all summer, but failed to sign him. The Juventus man can defend, attack and generally control the game, and that's something the Red Devils would easily benefit from. They may not notice his impact, but there's no way they'd be losing 5-3 to Leicester City again, especially if he's commanding the team from the middle of the park,

On top of this, United could look to change their tactics, formation and philosophy. There's a long road ahead, but if they make these fixes, it looks like United will reach their destination, but nobody knows when.
