Derek Jeter has been all smiles as he's graciously accepted a wide array of gifts from opposing teams around the league while embarking on his farewell tour. But once he gets home, he'll have more to worry about than simply figuring out what to do with all of his new treasures. He'll have to figure out how to pay for it as well.

In Jeter's case, there's no such thing as a free gift. It all counts as income in the eyes of Uncle Sam.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Jeter has racked up an estimated $33,000 worth of gifts so far, including a 10-day trip to Italy from the Yankees and a custom surfboard from the Los Angels Angels. Plus there's at least one more gift likely to come from the Boston Red Sox this weekend. And who knows what else the Yankees may send his way?

So right now, he's looking at upwards of an extra $16,000 tacked onto his tax bill at the end of the year.

"We hope the value is priceless to Derek," said Reds spokesman Rob Butcher in reference to the $6,000 kayak his team presented to Jeter.

As the Tribune points out, the $16K figure works out to roughly two innings worth of income for the shortstop.

In addition to the team gifts, Jeter has also been presented with a $34,000 Jay-Z Hublot watch from his former teammate Robinson Cano. But because that one was a gift from one individual to another, no tax will be assessed. Moreover, all of the funds donated by the teams to Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation will get passed along tax-free.

Jeter is set to play his last game at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, followed by the final series of his career against the Red Sox in Boston over the weekend, wrapping up play on Sunday.
