Yes, you read that right: Darko Milicic is giving up basketball for kickboxing.

Not that the first part is so hard to believe. After all, he is arguably the National Basketball Association's biggest flop, as pointed as out by the Associated Press.

Drafted second overall in the 2003 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons — second only to the "King" himself, LeBron James — Milicic never averaged more than 8.8 points per game in his 10 seasons in the league, though he was part of the 2004 Detroit Pistons squad that won the NBA title.

That is right about where any sort of success in the league started and ended for him. He has been without an NBA contract for the last two years.

But kickboxing?

Milicic says he first became interested in the sport just more than a year ago when he "came across a humanitarian campaign that was raising funds by auctioning a kickboxing world title belt," the AP reported.

"When I got home, I told myself, 'Why buy it if you can win it?'" Milicic said. "I won't go deep into this [kickboxing] if I cannot be devoted to it 100 percent. We will see what happens."

According to an article on nbaserbia.com — the headline of which roughly translates to "Darko Milicic put an end: Goodbye NBA career, good afternoon kick-boxing!" with the subhead, "The former second [pick] with the draft he decided to say 'goodbye' game under the hoop and to have a go in a completely new sport" — he will be signing a contract today with the World Association of Kickboxing Associations.

Once the contract is official, WAKO should also be announcing the details of his first match later in the day.
