And we're back! Survivor kicked off its 29th season premiere with another Blood vs. Water theme where loved ones battle it out on opposite tribes in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua.

As with every Survivor premiere we get the obligatory Jeff Probst helicopter shot introducing the contestants. Each pair has been given flint to practice with before the journey begins. We are introduced to all-American sweethearts Jon and Jaclyn, a former Michigan State quarterback and Ms. Michigan, respectively. Next we have controversial ex-MLB pitcher John Rocker and his girlfriend Julie, who are sure to bring the drama. As befitting a scene from Planet of the Apes, mother and daughter team, Missy and Baylor, are surrounded by monkeys. Brothers Drew and Alec promise to do away with the brotherly love. Father and daughter team Dale and Kelley and couple Josh and Reed hope to survive the elements. Josh and Reed are such die-hard Survivor fans that Reed got Josh flint for Valentine's Day. Awww...how cute! The kind of Valentine's Day gift that would warm your heart (pun intended). Police officer Val and fireman husband Jeremy are both in it to win it. Sri Lankan twins Nadiya and Natalie are coming from The Amazing Race to see if they can finally win a CBS reality show. Firefighters and father/son duo Keith and Wes are already at odds over who lost the striker to make fire.

Now let the games begin!

All of the pairs gather together only to separate into two tribes, Hunahpu and Coyopa. Once the tribes are formed we have our first reward challenge where Hunahpu's Jeremy volunteers to be the hero and win the challenge. However, the first twist of the season is revealed: Jeremy will have to compete against his wife! Winner gets flint for the tribe, while the loser goes to Exile Island until the immunity challenge. In the end, Jeremy hooks both platforms and brings them to his mat, thus sending his wife to Exile. But the twists keep coming. Jeff informs Jeremy he will have to choose someone from his own tribe to join his wife on Exile Island. He picks Keith because he thinks he will take care of the best. The tears come out and both tribes are on their way to their camp sites.

Once at the camp site, Jeremy starts strategizing right away. While his popularity is at an all-time high, he tries wrangling different females on his tribe to bring together a five-person alliance to claim majority on the tribe.

Over at Coyopa, Dale feeling like the odd man out because of his age takes an emblem from the well cover in case it will be useful later on in the game. Dale may not need it because he has gotten himself off to a great start with his tribe. Trying to start fire, he breaks his glasses and uses both lenses together as a magnifying glass. This method works, thus becoming the savior for his tribe.

Next we're taken to Exile, where Keith and Val have to pick between two urns with scrolls in them. Keith picks the blank one, while Val gets a clue to the immunity idle. Of course, Val doesn't share it with Keith, but really who would?

Back at Hunahpu, Drew is already rubbing people the wrong way by taking charge of building the shelter. Things aren't looking so good for John either at Coyopa whose identity as an ex-baseball star is uncovered by Wes. Also at Coyopa, the island now claims its first injury with Josh getting a rash from a poisonous plant at camp.

Survivor likes to tug at our heart strings and this season is no exception. Jon reveals to us his father has a brain tumor with only a short time longer to live, which is driving him to win the game even more.

We finally get our first taste at an immunity challenge, where the tribes have to race up three walls and then put together a puzzle at the top of the climb. Coyopa takes the lead all the way to the top with John's help. However, this is Survivor and you can never count a team out. While Coyopa is having trouble putting their puzzle together, Hunahpu catches up to them. It's a back and forth race to the finish with Hunahpu pulling out a win!

Before tribal council, the scrambling has already started. Dale suggests to the other guys voting out Nadiya because of her backstabbing on The Amazing Race. However, the girls have their own plans. They want an all-girl alliance plus Josh, who is gay, to vote against the guys with their main target being Dale. Baylor comes to Josh and tells him what the girls alliance wants, but she would vote whichever way he is voting. It seems that Josh is the swing vote going into tribal council.

Finally we're at tribal. Let the fireworks begin... or not. It seemed like no one took shots at anyone at the first tribal council since everyone is still feeling each other out. Nadiya made some comments about Josh being like one of the girls, which did not go over well with him. It was also apparent that Josh was the go-between the guys and girls alliances so his vote would be the decider.

Cue the dramatic voting music while one-by-one each tribe member votes. By the way, great editing by the Survivor producers to make it seem like the other tribe members were looking to see if Val would take out the idol. In the end, the first blind side of the season takes place with Nadiya getting voted out with five votes. Interestingly, Josh's vote goes to Baylor, while Baylor votes for Nadiya. Oh the horror!

As Betty Davis once said in All About Eve: "Buckle up it's going to be a bumpy ride."
