Jeff Taylor, a forward for the NBA's Charlotte Hornets, was arrested early Thursday morning in Michigan on a domestic assault charge, according to NBC Charlotte.

According to the North Carolina news source, police in East Lansing, Michigan, reported that 25-year-old Jeffery Matthew Taylor had been arrested at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, at the East Lansing Marriott, located on University Place.

The police report also states that Taylor was charged on one count of domestic assault, assault and malicious destruction of property, and his bail was set at $5,000.

Taylor has not commented on the arrest, but the Hornets did release a statement on Thursday night.

"The Charlotte Hornets were made aware of the incident involving Jeffery Taylor early this evening," the team said. "The organization is in the process of gathering more information and doing our due diligence. This is a matter that we take very seriously."

Just this week, NBA commissioner Adam Silver released a statement promising to reevaluate the league's domestic violence discipline policies in light of the myriad cases that have hit the NFL recently.

Currently, as reported by the New York Daily News on Monday, the NBA's policy states that "players convicted of a 'violent felony' are suspended at least 10 games. It is not a punishment specific to domestic violence, and - like the NFL - it is based on convictions, not arrests."

Taylor played just 26 games for the Hornets last season before rupturing his right Achilles tendon. Before his injury, he was averaging 8.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 24.2 minutes in eight starts.

This is the second domestic abuse case surrounding Charlotte area professional athletes. Greg Hardy of the NFL's Carolina Panthers is currently awaiting jury trial on charges of domestic violence stemming from a May 13 incident for which he has already been found guilty by a judge.
