Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer has been formally charged with assaulting his wife, the Associated Press is reporting.

The charges stem from two separate incidents that occurred at the end of July at their home in Phoenix.

According to Sports Illustrated, the official indictment states that Dwyer is being charged with felony aggravated assault and eight misdemeanors, including assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

The alleged incidents occurred a day apart from each other. The first was on July 21, when Dwyer reportedly head-butted his wife. The following day, the two got into another argument, and Dwyer supposedly punched his wife before throwing a shoe at his 17-month-old son.

As SI reported, "Police said Dwyer hid in a bathroom and threatened to kill himself in front of his wife and their child if she told police about the assault."

Dwyer's son was unharmed in the incident, and the formal indictment did not charge him with any crimes against the child.

Dwyer was booked for the incident Sept. 17, but the booking did not come with an official charge.

Still, the National Football League suspended him and placed him on the reserve/non-football illness list the following day. Dwyer will not play again for Arizona for the rest of this season, though the team continues to pay him.

The Cardinals have scheduled a status conference for Dwyer Oct. 6.

Dwyer's case is one in a slew of domestic violence disputes currently facing the NFL.

Ray Rice first made headlines for knocking his then-fiance unconscious in a New Jersey casino elevator in March, and he has since been suspended from the league.

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has been placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List as he appeals his domestic abuse conviction.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald continues to play as authorities continue to work toward deciding whether he should be charged following his Aug. 31 arrest.
