We'll have to file this one away under the rumor column until further notice, but an interesting report circulated on Tuesday that The Strain actor Kevin Durand had been approached about the role of Negan on The Walking Dead.

The rumor began at Nuke The Fridge, which admittedly noted that it was the first site to report this news. The site quoted the actor on a recent conference call on which Durand promoted his FX show, The Strain. "I've had a lot of people with The Walking Dead talk to me, mentioned that they see me for a character named Negan, but I haven't read the comic."

It's entirely possible the site misunderstood or misinterpreted his words, as Durand could have simply meant that a lot of fans have told him he would be right for the part, rather than producers or other officials on the AMC series.

Durand later responded to a fan on Twitter who asked him if there was any truth to the rumors. "No. I guess I was misinterpreted. I'm way too busy killing vamps," he wrote in reference to The Strain.

Of course, there's a slight possibility someone told Durand to backpedal after he let the news slip, but the more likely option is his words were simply misinterpreted.

WARNING: THE WALKING DEAD COMIC BOOK AND SHOW SPOILERS AHEAD

Negan makes a memorable appearance in the 100th issue of The Walking Dead comic when he beats Glenn to death with his barbed wire baseball bat that he affectionately calls "Lucille." It's a brutal scene in which he bashes Glenn's head in over and over until it squishes completely.

Now that the rumor is out there, Durand would actually be an excellent choice to play the villain. He has a large, physical presence, and he could bring a sense of intimidation and fear to each scene.
