Comedian Joan Rivers doesn't go down without a fight. When the warehouse-club chain Costco refused to carry copies of Rivers' "I Hate Everyone ... Starting with Me," she showed up to a store located in Burbank, CA with handcuffs, a megaphone, some copies of her book, and one strong message. This act can definitely be considered one of 2012's best book publicity stunts yet.
Rivers claims the store chain decided to ban her popular-selling book because on it mentions two inappropriate parody quotes from Marie Antoinette and Wilt Chamberlain.
So on Tuesday the Daytime Emmy Award winner showed up to the California Costco unannounced and began signing copies of her book and handing them out to unsuspecting fans, even handcuffing herself to a customer's shopping cart at one point.
Rivers told ABC's KABC-TV that the issue was larger than just losing some revenue on book sales.
"This is very frightening and it is truly about the First Amendment," Rivers said. "This is America and I don't want to see censorship."
When Burbank police finally arrived to the scene, Rivers agreed to leave and no charges were filed.
The comedian did what she does best and found humor in the matter, stating, "This is a store that sells 300 rolls of toilet paper at the same time. And I say any customer that buys 300 rolls of toilet paper deserves a funny book to sit on the toilet and read."
Costco has yet to release a comment on the matter.
As for the "Fashion Police" host, she claims that, "I have bought my condoms there and will continue to do so."
