Rumors have been circulating about what musical acts will be performing at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony on August 12. Big acts confirmed on the list already are the Who, Muse, George Michael, and the Pet Shop Boys. Artists such as Kate Bush, Madness, Adele, Paul McCartney (again), and the reunited Spice Girls are big names floating around with no official Olympic seal of approval yet. And now Mirror has confirmed that the U.K. pop boy band One Direction is guaranteed a full five-minute slot at the Olympic show, placing them in a spot among British music legacy.

Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne have been hard at work in rehearsals the past few days to ensure an awesome Olympic closing ceremony set. A source told Mirror that the boys have "been at rehearsals and can't wait to do their bit. It will be an unforgettable occasion and they feel privileged to be part of it."

According to other sources, the "What Makes you Beautiful" stars are taking the show very seriously and hope to prove to the world their once-in-a-generation musical talent.

The X-Factor semifinalists are also currently in the studio working on their highly anticipated second album, and one track is set to feature the acoustic singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran (the boys were recently spotted taking a break from recording with a game of football, or better known in the U.S., soccer).

On Tuesday band mate Payne sent out a post on Twitter reading:

@Real_Liam_Payne: "Just been for an ultrasound on my kidney turns out its fixed from when I was a baby!!! :o so now I have two J #weirdnewsoftheday."

One of Payne's kidneys had packed in when he was a child, and he was thrilled to share the news to fans that after his hospital check-up, both kidneys now appear to be completely healthy.

That's a lot of great news packed into just a few days for the "Up All Night" superstars, Directioners be sure to check out the boys rock London Sunday night starting at 9 p.m. ET at the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.
