Miami Dolphins defensive end Derrick Shelby was suspended indefinitely from the team on Monday, Oct. 6, after new details emerged surrounding his arrest at a Fort Lauderdale nightclub over the weekend.

According to police reports, Shelby was allegedly touching women without their permission at the Off the Hookah restaurant and nightclub early Saturday morning and was asked several times by police to leave the premises. Shelby refused and reportedly asked an officer, "What are you going to do?" At that point, the officers on the scene attempted to handcuff him, but he "pushed away and took an aggressive fighting stance," according to ESPN.

Finally, the officers got Shelby on ground and used a Taser on him three times before he was subdued and taken to jail. He was released on $100 bond.

The team announced its decision to suspend Shelby on Monday morning.

"We were disappointed to learn about Derrick's arrest. Everyone in this organization is held to high standards of conduct and professionalism," Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said in a statement. "Based on my conversations with Derrick and the information we have thus far, Derrick will be placed on Indefinite Club Suspension. When we have completed all of the necessary diligence, we will make a final determination on his discipline."

Shelby's agent, David Canter, maintains the player's innocence, however.

"I spoke with Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey earlier this morning and was disappointed to hear that the organization has decided to suspend my client Derrick Shelby," he said. "I have met with Derrick and his defense attorney, Daniel Rosenberg. Derrick has entered a plea of not guilty and we look forward to Derrick resuming his football career. We will have no further comment on this matter."

Before his arrest, Shelby had notched six tackles and two sacks for the Dolphins in five games this season. They are coming off a bye week.
