The Utah Jazz announced on Monday that the team had signed 5-year-old JP Gibson to a one-day contract.

"Per team policy, financial terms were not released," the official statement read.

Gibson was joined by his parents – Josh and Megan – and his 2-year-old sister Elsie for the signing, which took place in the team's interview room, located off the locker room. According to ESPN, photographer Jon Diaz was also there as part of his "Anything Can Be" project, "which creates storybooks for children with cancer about their dreams and wishes." JP was diagnosed in 2012 with acute lympoblastic leukemia. The young free-agent guard made his NBA debut later that evening in the Jazz's open blue vs. white scrimmage at EnergySolutions Arena.

With a minute left on the clock, Gibson checked in for Toure Murry. Jeremy Evans inbounded the ball to the youngster, and he dribbled the length of the court –– slipping past a steal attempt by Steve Novak and then past Dante Exum and Rudy Gobert for a two-handed dunk. The crowd went wild!

"JP loves most sports, but basketball is definitely his favorite," Megan Gibson said in a statement released by the Jazz. "When he was just over a year old, he would sit with my husband, Josh, watching games. He started insisting on shooting hoops for an hour each night before bedtime when he was just 15 months old. He knows he has to be 6 before he can play Junior Jazz, and he reminds us all the time that he can't wait until he's 6."
