Taylor Swift is shaking up her life right now with a new outlook on dating after her many romances, including One Direction's Harry Styles, turned into disasters.

"The last couple of years have been about defining life on my own terms," she told People in its 40th anniversary issue. "Being on my own, prioritizing my girlfriends, my family and my music above everything else and trying things I never thought I'd try. It's a really liberating and freeing time."

For the cover, the "Shake It Off" singer did a recreation of Mia Farrow's cover from 1974. At the time, Mia was posing as her character from the movie The Great Gatsby.

Taylor decided not to write heartbreak songs anymore because she's moved past them. Plus, guys have probably been too scared to date her for fear a song will be written about them.

"When I'm deeply hurt, I usually respond by writing exactly how I feel in a song, but I just haven't been devastated in the last couple of years," she said. "I made the decision to spend time on my own and figure out who I am."

Her past relationships have included celebrities such as Styles, John Mayer, Taylor Lautner and Jake Gyllenhaal.

"When you take the other person out of the scenario and you're walking through life on your own, you end up figuring out what you actually like without anyone else's input," she continued.

The country superstar thinks about dating again, but quickly squashes the thought. After all, she has her pets to keep her company.

"I'm not going to compromise the happiness and independence that I've found for just anybody. The idea of a date gives me a partial panic attack!" she said. "It includes 40 paparazzi cameras shooting through windows at us, and that's not relaxing or alluring for me. That makes me want to crawl under the couch and hide! But I'm fine! I have two cats. That's all I need."
