MTV’s ‘Awkward’ Picked Up For Fifth & Final Season

Awkward is currently in its fourth season and lucky for fans it has already been picked up for another season. Unfortunately the next season will also be its last. MTV announced on Wednesday that the hit show has been renewed for its fifth season, which will mark the end of high school and the end of the series. According to TV Guide, "MTV has picked up a fifth season of the critically acclaimed comedy series, but also confirms it will be the show's last."

Season four will end with the Palos Hills High's senior class going on a spring break trip and season five will pick up for the second half of their senior year.

"Spring break gets crazy for everyone. There's a group of new guys that we meet and they are military men! Of course these new guys just add so much drama to our lives. And also, you'll get to see Tamara and Jake more specifically in the world of music. We decide to dabble back in Jake's music career," Jillian Rose Reed (who plays Tamara) told E! News about the upcoming season four finale.

According to TV Guide, Awkward has seen a decline in its ratings during the second half of season four, which began on Sept. 23, averaging 1.2 million viewers. "That's down from the Season 4 debut on April 15 (1.6 million viewers, with a total of 2.3 million in Live+3). Comparatively, last fall's Season 3B debut (on Oct. 22) averaged 1.6 million viewers and 2.2 million total in Live+3,"

Awkward follows Jenna Hamilton (played by Ashley Rickards) as she tries to find her way through high school. Everything that can go wrong, does go wrong, starting with being mistaken for trying to commit suicide before her freshmen year of high school and her parents giving her a giant box of condoms for Christmas.

The MTV comedy also stars Beau Mirchoff as Matty McKibben, Brett Davern as Jake Rosati, Molly Tarlov as Sadie Saxton and Greer Grammer as Lissa. New episodes of season four are on every Tuesday night on MTV.
