Gwyneth Paltrow, of Iron Man fame, and lifestyle queen Martha Stewart would seem like the two least likely people to be in a feud, but now Gwyneth is speaking out about their supposed rivalry.
Last month, Martha was asked about Gwyneth's lifestyle website goop and the fact that the actress is seemingly intruding on her territory.
"She just needs to be quiet. She's a movie star," Martha said to Net-a-Porter's The Edit. "If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn't be trying to be Martha Stewart."
Ouch ... Well, Gwyneth responded to that diss in a surprising way.
"No one has ever said anything bad about me before, so I'm shocked and devastated," Paltrow said teasingly to Fortune at the Most Powerful Women Summit in Dana Point, California. "I'll try to recover."
The reason Gwyneth seems unfazed with the criticism is the fact that she's being compared to Martha in the first place.
"If I'm really honest, I'm so psyched that she sees us as competition. I'm so psyched. I really am," she said. "At this point in my life I don't take it personally."
Martha's harsh disparagement may be in part to the fact that Gwyneth recently appointed Lisa Gersh, ex-CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, to replace Seb Bishop as CEO of goop.
"I think that when anybody criticizes anyone, it really is revealing more about where they are in time and space, as opposed to where you are in time and space," the Shakespeare in Love actress said.
According to the Oscar winner, goop is part of a new phase in her life beyond her film career.
"I think we women, we have ambition. We can multitask and we like to push ourselves," she said. "It's been so incredibly rewarding and so incredibly challenging in a way that the ... movie part just can't be after a certain point."
