Americans are standing proud tonight, knowing one of their Air Force pilots saved the lives of many young school children. RAF Lakenheath, located in Sussex, England, often sends out F-15D for real missions and plenty of test runs, but today a test flight nearly ended with dramatic consequences. Around 15:30 BST the pilot ejected from the aircraft, ensuring that the aircraft avoided the (very) nearby children's school.

The pilot has minor injuries, and is said to be in good spirits. He was taking part in a training exercise and, though we're unaware of what caused the crash, he reacted perfectly, ensuring he and the nearby children and public were all safe. The aircraft lost control in a very public area, and many complained there was smoke and plane parts 'everywhere' after the dramatic accident.

Base commander Col Robert Novotny praised the pilot, saying, "We're very fortunate, our pilot ejected... he's in fine spirits."

Witness Janet Prescott insisted: "It's frightening to think that the jet has passed over houses and the village school. Who knows how that jet could have come down. From the point he ejected to where the plane came down is probably a mile. That jet has continued flying with no one in it. It could have hit any one of a number of houses. Thank God it didn't."

With all the wrong going on in the world, this American soldier, although thousands of miles away, made his country, and the British public, very proud. The overseas Americans are likely to very thankful that this accident occurred on a training mission, and that their pilot executed everything to perfection.
