Raven-Symone Fires Back At The Critics, Child Star Tries To Amid "Black" Comment Now Saying "I Never Said I Wasn't Black"

Raven-Symoné is setting the record straight and clarifying what she meant when she made the controversial statements of how she felt about labels, including the "gay," and "African American" label.

MStars News previously reported that the former childhood star of That’s So Raven, and The Crosby Show received backlash, after revealing to Oprah Winfrey that she doesn't consider herself African American during her one on one chat with Winfrey on the OWN network show, Oprah: Where Are They Now.

“I never said I wasn’t Black,” Symone told TheGrio.com, in a new statement. “I want to make that very clear. I said, ‘I am not African American.’”

Over the weekend, Raven told Oprah that she hates labels, including the term, “gay." Raven did make it clear that shew was indeed in a romantic relationship with a woman, but says their relationship is just a human who loves humans.

When it comes to what race the former star is, Raven claims that she connects with all kinds of people from a number of  ethnic backgrounds, adding that she is not sure of her own ethnicity. However, she is positive that her roots trace back to Louisiana.

Though Raven's comments have angered the Black community, starting a social media rampage, Raven said that she is happy that she started an important conversation.

“I never expected my personal beliefs and comments to spark suck emotion in people,” Raven admitted. “I think it is only positive when we can openly discuss race and being labeled in America.”
