Earlier today, it was reported that Saturday Night Live veteran Jan Hooks passed away in New York at the age of 57 –– according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hooks first joined the SNL cast back in 1986 and played a number of notable characters. More recently, she was seen as Verna Maroney on the former NBC hit 30 Rock. Following the news of her death, former SNL players Jon Lovitz and Amy Poehler released statements detailing their condolences.

THR claims that there have been no further details released on the actress' death.

Lovitz, who was on the cast at the same time as Hooks, stated, "This is very, very sad news about Jan. She was easily one of the best comedic actresses to be on SNL. Whenever she and Phil Hartman worked together, it was magic. As Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker on Church Chat with Dana Carvey, the three of them created one of the best sketches, ever, in the history of SNL."

As mentioned, Hooks had many memorable roles on the famed NBC sketch show. Aside from playing one-half of The Sweeney Sisters alongside Nora Dunn, the actress was known for her portrayal of Hilary Clinton, Sinead O'Connor and Nancy Reagan.

On her recent death, Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler stated, "I was 15 years old when I first saw Jan Hooks on SNL. All of her characters spoke to me. She was one of the greats. When I was at SNL, we would frequently talk about her genius. This has been a sh*tty couple of months for comedy."
