Back in 2013, Reese Witherspoon had a little run-in with the law when she was arrested for disorderly conduct following her husband Jon Toth being pulled over by cops. The couple had been drinking prior to the incident and, when Toth was pulled over under suspicions of a DUI, Reese allegedly spoke up to the officers to defend her husband.

Reese spoke out about the incident today, while she was promoting her film Wild at the BFI London Film Festival.

"I think it was a moment where people realized that I wasn't exactly what they thought I was," the star explained via The Hollywood Reporter. "I guess maybe we all like to define people by the way the media presents them, and I think that I show I have a complexity that people didn't know about. It's part of human nature. I made a mistake. We all make mistakes. The best you can do is say sorry and learn from it and move on."

And it seems that the Academy Award-winning actress has moved on from the event. The statement she released shortly following the incident had showed that she was already learning from the experience.

"Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now," the star explained via E! News. "But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse."

The 38-year-old actress can next be seen in the motion picture Wild, which she revealed to BBC News was the "hardest" role she has ever undertaken.

"I had to do all the parts of the movie, the parts that made me feel uncomfortable, too, because it is about emotional honesty," the star revealed.
