USA gymnastics team member McKayla Maroney failed on the vault at the 2012 London Olympics and the video shows how she ended up losing the gold and settling for the silver. Maroney was expected to win the gold if she had not fallen.

Maroney held the highest score of the night on her first vault with a 15.866. However, the unexpected fall on the second vault brought her the score of 14.3. Her total average was 15.083, just 0.108 behind Romania winner Sandra Izbasa. Russia earned the bronze medal.

Maroney was upset at her slip. When she met with her coach after the medal ceremony, her eyes filled with tears.

"I didn't deserve to win gold if I landed on my butt," Maroney said after taking the silver medal.

"It's more of shock," she added. "I'm not disappointed about the silver. I'm disappointed about my performance."

Maroney has practiced the second vault for so long that she has not made a fall for three or four months.

Even though the whole world saw the fall, they have not forgotten the amazing first vault routine. Coaches and gymnasts were so impressed by it that they think it should be renamed in Maroney's honor.

U.S. Coach John Geddert said, "McKayla Maroney's was an absolute moonshot. They should rename the vault. They should call it the 'Maroney,' because it's a different league. She does it so much higher and faster and cleaner and more dynamic than the normal human."
