HBO's Game of Thrones has done a lot of things extraordinarily well during its four seasons on the air, but the show has stayed away from using flashbacks in its storytelling structure. But apparently, that is about to change in Season 5.

Game of Thrones will feature its first flashback scene, and EW.com exclusively reports that the expectation is for the scene to be the opener for Season 5, though this could change in the editing process.

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed the flashback would occur doing a Q&A session with film students in Spain, where the series is currently shooting part of Season 5. EW.com posted a quote, which was translate from a Spanish website and not attributed to either producer. "By making the first season, we set a rule: No prophecies, dreams or flashbacks. We failed the first two and this season the third. So yes, this season will finally have flashbacks."

In other news, the show filmed a pivotal scene from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series involving Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), and new photos from the set show just how brutal this scene could be.

WARNING: BOOK SPOILERS AHEAD

In the books, Cersei suffers the wrath of a mob in King's Landing in a particularly brutal and powerful scene. The Game of Thrones community site The Watchers on The Wall has posted some photos from the filming of the scene, and it looks as though the series will stay true to the book.

The photos show Headey, or possibly a stunt double, naked with much of her blond hair cut off as part of the shaming. She also has blood, dirt and possibly even fecal matter all over her back. Check out one photo at the top of the page and the rest here.
