Teen Mom star Amber Portwood has been through hell and back, but now she's ready to get her life back on track by filing for joint custody of her daughter Leah from baby daddy Gary Shirley, who's expecting his second child.

"Amber is doing well and wants to file for joint custody of Leah when she's off parole next month," Amber's brother Shawn Portwood told Radar Online.

The reality star's baby daddy Gary has full custody after Amber went to prison for her addiction to drugs, but she doesn't want full custody for good reason.

"She doesn't want to fight for full custody because Gary is a great father," Shawn said. "She is happy to share custody of Leah."

While Amber will have a full plate if she shares custody of Leah, she's still finding time to continue her studies and trying to help others.

"She wants to go back to school for psychology, sociology or criminology," Shawn told Radar. "She wants to open her own rehab facility one day."

"She's only doing Teen Mom again so people can relate to her and learn from her mistakes. She's not doing it for money or for fame," he continued. "She wants to make a difference."

This comes on the heels of MStars News's report that Gary's expecting another baby with current girlfriend Kristina Anderson.

In the recent Ask the Moms special on MTV, Amber said Gary lied to her while she was in prison about wanting to get back together. Apparently, he was with Kristina while Amber was serving 17 months behind bars.

"When I was in prison, Gary was telling me that we were going to be back together, and he was looking for a house for us, and selling me this big dream," she said. "It was a couple of months before I got out that I found out that he was actually with somebody pretty much the whole time!"

Amber's currently filming another season of Teen Mom and all this drama will be great television to watch when the show comes back in 2015.
