New Line had planned on releasing one of the most anticipated horror movies of recent time in 2015, but this week we learned that the studio decided to hold off on The Conjuring 2 until sometime in 2016. What does this mean, exactly? We don't know if it's a good or bad thing, but we do know that James Wan is returning as director, so that's absolutely the best news we can take out of this.

According to Deadline, the film will start shooting in the summer of 2015, giving Wan plenty of time to finish his work on Fast & Furious 7.

"We had a great experience with James on The Conjuring, and we give him a lot of credit for that movie working so well," New Line president and COO Toby Emmerich explained. "He worked on the screenplay and came to the table with very inventive things that were not in the script and cast it fantastically well. Add to that his work in producing Annabelle, and he is one of the masters of the genre and we're happy to have him. You go through the list of possible directors of The Conjuring sequel, and his is the name you stop at, which is why we tried so hard to make this work."

Wan and his production studio, Atomic Monster, are also set to ""develop and produce modest budget films in the science fiction, horror, and comedy genres," according to Slash Film.

We now understand why the release date was pushed back - most likely to land Wan as director again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the original date set for The Conjuring 2 (Oct. 23, 2015) will be filled with "an untitled horror film." We can't get enough of these horror films, so we're excited!
