World heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko is the ideal role model. He treats every opponent the same, with respect, and working hard before fighting them. Many boxers have used the Ukrainian as an inspiration to better themselves, but somehow the memo was lost in translation to one young boxer. Vido Loncar took on Algiras Baniulis in the European Youth Boxing Championships, which have been held in Zagreb, Croatia, but Vido lost the fight and proceeded to attack the referee, bringing shame to his nation. Will young boxers follow in the footsteps of Wladimir or will some continue to break the rules?

The boxer has been banned for life. The light heavyweight lost the fight, with the referee stopping the bout. Vido lost his mind, attacking him and flooring him in the process, proceeding to punch him. Strangely, he showed more fight against the helpless man than he did against his opponent.

Security dragged him off, and the referee is now recovering in a hospital. The injuries are serious, but not ones that are thought to be long-lasting.

The Croatian Boxing Federation's Marko Marovic insisted, "This is the worst thing that could happen to us. This is a disgrace to Zagreb and Croatia and cause the sport of boxing major damage. All the hard work that we put into organizing this championship and raising the image of Croatian boxing has been destroyed in a few seconds."

Why do some boxers fail to show the necessary respect, and how can the sport be made less controversial and safer for all involved? Comment below!
