Billy Bob Thornton Teases 'Bad Santa 2' Updates - Raunchy Sequel Still In Development

You've probably heard some talk over the last year or so of a Bad Santa sequel movie project being in the works. In case you had forgotten, star Billy Bob Thornton this week offered an update on the new raunchy comedy, saying that Bad Santa 2 is still in development, with a script currently in the works!

While taking part in the "Hollywood Masters" panel discussion at Loyola Marymount University's School of Film & Television this week, the acclaimed actor and writer was asked about the next chapter of his hit comedy. He revealed that, yes the project was still in development, and that he has a pretty good understanding on how sequels are usually not as good as the originals.

"We're just waiting for a script, ya know? We're never going to beat the first one but you got to get as close as you can," he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter (follow the link to see the video footage of this discussion). "You just can't go and do it halfway so we're waiting for something that's close enough. It'll do real well I imagine and people will say, 'Well, it wasn't as good as the first one' and we'll say 'Yeah, we knew it wouldn't be' but I think it should be fun and I think people who liked [the first one] will enjoy it and hopefully we'll get it off."

Besides a script, the project doesn't even have a director or writer locked in yet, with a long list of contributors popping into and out of the sequel over the years. Thornton seems to be heavily involved, however, so that's a good sign.
