Reports confirm that former high school gym teacher Megan Mahoney was arrested on Monday (October 20) and ultimately charged with 30 counts of statutory rape and four counts of "criminal sexual act." The 24-year-old educator allegedly had sexual relations with a 16-year-old male student over a period of several months back in 2013.
Mahoney taught at New York City's prestigious Moore Catholic High School located in Staten Island.
The sexual abuse took place throughout October (2013) - January (2014). Court documents reveal that Mahoney had inappropriate relations with the unidentified teen "on numerous occasions - that is at least two times per week during the period." The teacher and student also indulged in oral sex - sometimes even right on-campus.
Mahoney - who also worked as the school's assistant athletic director and assistant girls basketball coach was later fired when the boy's ex-girlfriend spotted the two getting "intimate" at a local pizza joint. She called the police which eventually led to an investigation. Read more on the full story (which went viral back in August) at The New York Post.
When reached for comment, the male victim said: "I don't really know how I feel about it" (via The Post). He was also expelled, although administators insist such action had nothing to do with his relationship with Mahoney.
Apparently, the Fordham University/Wagner College graduate approached the boy in the school's gym last year, and offered to coach him one-on-one in basketball. Several classmates thought it was "awesome." Once the relationship grew physical, the male claims that they would "just drive around and [do it] in the car."
Mahoney would not comment, but was later released without bail. Each felony could hold a maximum of four years in jail if convicted.
