Ethan Hawke Cast As Chet Baker In Biopic Movie 'Born To Be Blue'

A new biopic film project based on the life of legendary jazz musician Chet Baker has already started shooting in Canada, but this week we've learned who will star in the movie: Ethan Hawke. Writer and director Robert Budreau is helming this project, entitled Born to be Blue, which will focus on the rise, fall, and eventual comeback of Baker in the music world.

For those of you a bit worried about the unknown director taking on a Chet Baker biopic, have no fear. Budreau is a music fanatic and has already made a short about Baker's demise entitled The Deaths of Chet Baker. He also made the short Dream Recording with jazz pianist David Braid. We have some high hopes for Budreau and this film.

Deadline reports:

The story will chart his comeback in the late 1970s and the tumultuous love affair that changed the way he played music and helped him on the road to redemption after his self-destructive ways had seemingly destroyed his career.

Carmen Ejogo (The Purge: Anarchy) and Callum Keith Rennie (Battlestar Galactica) also star in this project (via Slash Film). Reports state that, though we've only heard of Hawke's casting this week, the acclaimed actor has been involved with developing this picture for a very long time now.

Baker's career is definitely an interesting subject for a movie. His rise to fame and fall into drug abuse is sure to catch some attention come awards season, so expect a lot of buzz around Hawke's performance when it this theaters.
