Dolce & Gabbana can go back to designing amazing clothes now that they have been cleared by Italy's highest court of tax evasion!

Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce had emphatically proclaimed their innocence after two lower courts convicted the designing duo after prosecutors alleged they used Luxembourg holding company Gado S.r.l. to not have to pay taxes.

The fashion legends were originally sentenced in April to 18 months in prison for keeping millions of dollars worth of Euros from the Italian government. The Italian Supreme Court said it had cleared the designers because it "believes that the criteria used to determine that Gado was a fictitious entity were wrong."

The initial royalties the Italian government calculated that Dolce & Gabbana didn't declare were in an upwards of 1 billion euros or $1.3 billion!

"I am very satisfied," the D&G designers' lawyer Massimo Dinoia said upon hearing the not guilty verdict. "We have been saying that they were innocent for the past seven years. Nobody can take back the negative publicity they received over these seven years, but we knew we were in the right all along."

The designers themselves were elated at the ruling after months of bad publicity regarding the case.

"We knew it!!! We are honest people!" Stefano tweeted in Italian.

They even released a statement through their company about the ruling, "We have always been honest and we are extremely proud of this recognition by the Italian Court of Justice. Viva L'Italia."

According to Reuters, fashion companies have come under intense investigations in Italy since they did really well even though there was a financial crisis. Miuccia Prada and her husband, chief executive officer Patrizio Bertelli, said they were being investigated by the Italian government over allegations of tax evasion.

What do you think of the Italian Supreme Court's ruling in favor of Dolce & Gabbana?
