Devin Star Tailes, better known as Dev, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. You probably know Dev from the chorus on Far East Movement's 2010 club hit, "Like a G6." The musician recently released a new EP titled Bittersweet July. After separating from her old team and having a daughter, now 2 1/2, recording the album was a "therapeutic process," she explained. Her beauty secrets include a cat-eye, clear skin and healthy hair.

"It was two years of nonstop emotions — it was like a roller coaster ... It was fun to actually go in and make songs that were almost hard for me to sing in the studio because they were a little bit emotional."

In an interview with style.com, the artist and ambassador for CK One Color Cosmetics revealed her best beauty secrets, including her trick for a killer cat-eye, the "$5 exfoliator" that keeps her complexion clear and how her hair color matches the vibe of her music.

First, she explained her trick for creating the perfect cat-eye:

"Well, it took a lot of practice. I didn't used to be that good at it. But I have this technique where I lean my elbow on my countertop or anything that can keep my hand steady. I do like to get really close to my lash line just so the pen doesn't leave a little bit of skin showing through. That way, when I fill in [the shape] with mascara, it all looks full, dark and accentuates my eyes a little bit better. I'm pretty good at it now — I can even do it in the car, which is pretty awesome."

She also mentioned her favorite eyeliner is the CK One Color Eye Liner Marker:

"It's awesome. I go through them like crazy! But yeah, they're my favorite, and that's the marker that I wear onstage and offstage, too. I always have, like, 10 of them on me!"

The star also shared her secret to keeping her skin clear:

"I use a $5 drugstore exfoliator — it's the easiest thing if I'm on the road, like [the one from] St. Ives. I think as long as I exfoliate three times a week, that's what I've found for me is important. My [fiance] uses Kiehl's, so I'll use his Kiehl's stuff, but it doesn't really matter if it's the most expensive as long as there's a routine."

Dev's known for changing up her hair color often. It was said she even colored her hair to match the vibe of her latest EP.

"The blue was the early stages of Bittersweet July, which is so funny that we're talking about matching my hair color to the vibe of my album! But it did start blue, and now that it's up for order on iTunes, I'm doing this celebratory thing. Now I have it green; it was purple for a little bit — I'm changing it up. But it was blue for a really long time," she said.

To keep her hair healthy, Dev mentioned she uses Oribe hair care products: "I use Oribe. I use their products, and I love them. I use their texture sprays, shampoo, everything, all the time."

As for beauty lessons she wishes to pass onto her daughter, Dev shared: "I hope that she ends up picking up a good skincare [routine] — I do think it's really important to have healthy skin. The makeup sits better and it reacts better, so I hope that she learns and follows through with the washing your face two times a day and taking your makeup off before bed. And, hopefully, she learns a good cat-eye. She did put on lipstick the other day and didn't even get outside the lines. I could not believe it. I was like, 'Who did your lipstick?' She was like, 'I did my lipstick, Mom!'"
