After months and months of teasing big stars, finally a real name has been officially attached to Marvel Studios upcoming superhero flick. With Scott Derrickson in the director's chair, Twitter had a field day after hearing the news actor Benedict Cumberbatch is rumored for the leading role of Marvel's Doctor Strange.

With the project landing in the Sinister director's hands, the search seemed endless for casting agents to find the right leading man. We also mentioned here that there was a growing wish list of actors, with such high-profile names such as Tom Hardy (Inception), Academy Award winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), even Mad Men's Jon Hamm was thrown into the roster. There were even rumors of Joaquin Phoenix (Walk The Line) being approached during the recent San Diego Comic-Con as well.

According to Deadline, Marvel has possibly found its Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange. The Sherlock actor is the studio's choice and negotiations are about to begin. The English actor is already being named for an Oscar for his must-see performance in The Imitation Game.

This marks the third franchise Cumberbatch is involved in. First the titled role as Sherlock, then Star Trek as the villain Khan, and now Doctor Strange.

This is Twitter followers had to say:

@JMDeMatteis, who wrote the Defenders comics, states, "This may be the best comics-to-screen casting since Robert Downey as Iron Man."

@GCNStorm adds, Whoa. Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be Doctor Strange?? That's... crazy interesting. (Sort of expected casting, but still awesome.)

@briantruitt is very pleased with the announcement, "Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange gives me the happy screams."

@IrvingTorres96 tweets, "You know, I'm really proud of Marvel for casting Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. What a brilliant decision."

Unfortunately, the Sherlock actor has not been confirmed as Kevin Fiege told an audience at their Marvel Event conference, "If it were confirmed, we would introduce him today."  According to Comic Book Resources, the only thing official is the film's release date.

November 14th, 2016 is the expected release date for Doctor Strange. Readers, what do you think of Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange?
