SF Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera was shockingly suspended from 50 games after testing positive for steroids.  Testoterone is a banned performance-enhancing substance and his usage of it is a violation of the drug agreement in the team.

Cabrera released a statement that said, "My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used."

"I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants' organization and to the fans for letting them down."

This announcement came just a few days after Cabrera's 28th birthday on August 11, 2012.  He was not far from reaching the 1,000 hits but now it looks like he will have to wait another 50 games to hit that record.

Fans were rooting for him just days before, and now there is a great atmosphere of disappoint.

"Melky, you're breaking my heart," one fan said on Twitter.

Another Twitter user wrote addressing the hidden use of steroids in the league, "Melky Cabrera rolled the bones and crapped out. Guys use PED's and always will. Why? Because they work. And they usually get away w/ it."

Someone else has created a funny T-shirt titled "Got Melk?"

"Got Melk? shirts on sale starting at $13 here https://bit.ly/HSuBJl #SFGiants #MelkyCabrera"
Yet another fan tried to see the positive light: "Interesting that Melky Cabrera owned it. Issued statement saying he used banned substance. Extremely rare for player to admit guilt..."

The SF Giants also issued a statement regarding the suspension.

"We are extremely disappointed to learn the suspension of Melky Cabrera for violating MLB's Join Drug Prevention & Treatment Program. We fully support MLB's policy & it's efforts to eliminate performance enhancing drugs from our game. Per the protocol outlined by MLB's collective bargaining agreement, the #SFGiants will not comment further on this matter."
