Just last year, casting rumors surrounding EL James' kinky film adaptation of "Fifty Shades Of Grey" went viral online like crazy. "Les Miserables" star Eddie Redmayne once admitted that he'd be open to playing the BDSM-inspired role of Christian Grey - the 32-year-old actor once told Marie Claire:

"I know there's a huge amount of hype around it [the movie] so I definitely never say never. I've heard so much about this book I see people reading it on the tube and I'm always really impressed that they're reading it on the tube because it's kind of kinky... I'm thinking, 'What are you getting off on on the tube?' I've not read it myself."

Interesting... but the erotic authoress definitely wasn't hearing it. And Redmayne doesn't understand why!

In a recent interview with Variety magazine, Redmayne reveals:

"She took to her Twitter feed to go, 'Under no circumstances!' It was like, all right, all right! Am I that bad? I can put a whip in my hand. I can get all kinky, can't I? Apparently not" (via E! News).

Fun fact - the English movie star is actually good pals with Jamie Dornan, who was eventually cast as Mr. Grey alongside Dakota Johnson (playing the innocent "girl next door" Anastasia Steele). They used to hang out in Hollywood before both "hit it big" -

"We used to go to the Standard Hotel in West Hollywood, and split a sandwich between us because that meant we could get cheaper parking. We'd swim and play table tennis for hours," Redmayne explains.

But Redmayne's career didn't take a hit after the "Fifty Shades" rejection - he stars as Stephen Hawking in the upcoming biological romance, "The Theory of Everything." The flick (also storying former Miss Steele fan-favorite Felicity Jones), hits theaters in November 2014:

Meanwhile, "Fifty Shades" was handed a Valentine's Day release (February 13, 2015).
