Comedian Jerrod Carmichael Lands NBC Pilot Deal With ‘Neighbors’ Director Nick Stoller Following HBO Spike Lee-Backed Stand Up Special Release [VIDEO]

After months of refurbishing comedian Jerrod Carmichael's deal, it looks like NBC is FINALLY ready to move forward on a multi-camera series inspired by the comic's material. Carmichael, who appeared in the Seth Rogen-Zac Efron led film Neighbors earlier this year, will reportedly create and star in the series with Neighbors' director Nick Stoller writing the script.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy series will also be executive produced by Ravi Nandan.

Deadline notes that NBC had originally planned to order a lower-budgeted project based on the comedian's material. However, with all the work popping up for him over this past year – and his steadfast ability to tackle a number of projects, and do them all well – the network apparently took notice and offered him a second pilot back in June of this year.

The young comedian has had a rising career over the past few years, appearing as a unique presence on the comedy stage along with a memorable persona on camera... which is ultimately what has attracted the peacock network his way.

Aside from the NBC deal, Deadline reports that HBO recently aired the comedian's stand up special which was directed by famed filmmaker Spike Lee.

As far as Stoller, the writer-director has written and directed The Five-Year Engagement, was a writer on the recently released Jason Segel-Cameron Diaz starring film Sex Tape and was the director on Segel's 2008 film Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
