After making the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, BOOM! Studios is ready to officially launch its ongoing Escape From New York comic book series. Based on John Carpenter's sci-fi/action cult classic, writer Christopher Sebela (DEAD LETTERS) and artist Diego Barreto (Irredeemable), are bringing the one-eyed anti-hero, Snake Plissken, back from the dead.

If you remember the sci-fi/action flick, the island of Manhattan was been turned into a maximum security prison. After Air Force One crashes into the prison site, the government forces the fallen war solider to march in there and rescue the President of the United States. With the clock ticking, Snake Plissken (memorably played by Kurt Russell) has to go through cabalistic street gangs, the Duke of New York (Isaac Hayes), and a wrestling match with a vicious fighter. The comic will pick up where the film left off, before the sequel Escape From L.A.

BOOM! is also responsible for the return of another Carpenter/ Russell character. We were overjoyed when Jack Burton and Big Trouble In Little China was getting his own comic book series. During SDCC, we were so excited to say "I thought you were dead," when we heard the news.

BOOM!'s Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon reveals the inspiration in a press statement, "After bringing back Jack Burton, we knew we had to revive Snake Plissken. The new stories we have in mind for Snake are going to really excite longtime fans, and those who have never seen the film will be able to jump right in with America's Most Wanted Man. It's a great time to be a John Carpenter fan!"

In the upcoming narrative, the crime rate in the United States has risen to 400 percent. After humiliating the President in front of the world and destroying America's one chance to end World War III, Snake Plissken has become America's Most Wanted Man in a land of criminals and the insane. Everyone wants Snake dead, which the war hero, outlaw, and renegade knows all too well.

In an interview with Comics Alliances, Sebela teases, "We're not going to swing wildly in the other direction and just have him thrown into place after place with a timer on his wrist and something deadly in his system, but New York was just the start of how messed up things get in Snake's life."

Variant covers will be illustrated by Moon Knight's Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire, Tim Bradstreet (The Punisher), Riley Rossmo (Green Wake), Jay Shaw (Evil Empire), and Alice X. Zhang (Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor).
