Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan was apparently arrested this morning in Ireland after an incident aboard her Aer Lingus flight from New York's JFK airport, where the Irish singer allegedly assaulted an air hostess. Not only that, but TMZ report the singer also head-butted the police officer trying to arrest her.

The BBC and ITV report that O'Riordan was detained at Shannon Airport in County Clare, Ireland, once her Aer Lingus flight landed at 5.30am, with The Irish Times also reporting that the air hostess was taken to Mid-West Regional Hospital with a suspected fractured foot stemming from the onboard incident. O'Riordan then allegedly head-butted and spat at the officer, with reports saying the officer was not seriously injured.

It's also being reported that O'Riordan was being assessed medically after being detained and taken to the Shannon Garda station for questioning regarding the incident, and has now been taken to a hospital in Limerick.

The Garda (Irish police) released a statement confirming that "Gardai were called to meet the aircraft following an allegation of an assault on a female Aer Lingus air hostess. A Garda was also assaulted during the course of the arrest."

The Daily Mail report that Aer Lingus released a statement saying 'An incident took place on board flight EI 110 en route from New York to Shannon today. The matter is being investigated by An Garda Siochana. As this is a security matter we will not comment any further,' the spokesman said.

Representatives for O'Riordan or The Cranberries are yet to comment on the situation.

The Cranberries, who formed in 1990, were one of the biggest pop acts of the '90s, selling over 40 million albums worldwide, with two smash singles in "Linger" and "Zombie" showcasing O'Riordan's unique voice.  Their 1994 album, No Need To Argue went seven times platinum. The band broke up in 2003, and O'Riordan launched a solo career that produced Are You Listening (2007) and No Baggage (2009), before the band reformed in 2009, and released new album Roses in 2012.
