Bret Michaels Hospitalized Six Times in Two Weeks: Singer Had to Have Surgery on His Kidneys

Rocker Bret Michaels, 51, has dealt with some major health issues in the past, and they keep coming.

The "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" singer underwent a kidney surgery after being hospitalized six times in two weeks. Friend Pete Evick told fans Monday (November 10) on Michael's Facebook and website informing them of his troubles.

"This past week Bret had to have surgery on his kidneys. With all diabetes there are extra precautions and sometimes complications," Evick said in the long letter to fans.

Michaels has dealt with type 1 diabetes where he publicly talked about it on The Celebrity Apprentice 3, which he raised money for the American Diabetes Association.

"The pain that lead to the original surgery was so great that he simply could not perform last Thursday in Champaign. It first started in Mundelein, Illinois a few nights before. Even though Bret kept that to himself, it was noticeable that he wasn't' felling great," Evick wrote.

On April 12, 2010 the Rock of Love star was rushed to the hospital after dealing with severe stomach pains, later having to have an emergency appendectomy. Later that month he was rushed again to the hospital with a severe headache, doctors saying he suffered a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage. His troubles didn't end there, later that year in May he was readmitted to the hospital after suffering from numbness on the left side of his body, they found a hole in the heart.

Recently doctors put two stents in his body following his recent surgery. "Jumping around with two stents was a bad idea," Evik wrote. "I can't explain the amount of blood or where it came from, but it was horrifying on his bus after the show."
