‘The Middle’ Recap: “The Sinkhole” Reveals A Kitchen Problem And The Return Of The Death Napkin

The Middle returned with an all-new episode tonight and it was very funny. As usual the Heck is falling apart but this time it revolves around a kitchen mishap. "The Sinkhole," also revives the "death napkin" and continues Sue's journey to college.

The episode begins with Axl and Mike playing catch in the kitchen with an apple as Sue adds her newest paycheck to the Sue college fund. After Frankie tells the boys to stop messing around in the kitchen, the sink drops down into the counter and becomes a sinkhole as water explodes everywhere.

Later that day at school Sue meets with her high school counselor and everything goes wrong. The counselor tells her that she needs one more PE credit to graduate from high school, because being a member of the wrestlerettes is not a real sport. In order to fix the whole problem she has to switch into a ridiculous PE class and it is hilarious.

Meanwhile back at home, Brick tells Axl that he broke their dad's lawnmower, so Axl comes up with a foolproof plan. Because Axl is now "crazy responsible," he will allow Brick to use his get out of jail free card. Axl tells Brick to steal their dad's wallet, so when he freaks out about the mower, he can be the hero by finding the missing wallet and distract him from the mower all together.

As Brick steals Mike's wallet, Frankie decides to leave the sink broken and to start washing the dishes in the shower and using the hairdryer as the dryer part of the dishwasher (since it is also broken).

When Sue starts her PE class she quickly learns that it is absurd. The class is currently learning dance routines that include jumping in between bamboo sticks to a beat. After she falls trying to jump around, she tries to be the one who holds the bamboo instead, but she ends up sending a person to the hospital.

Back to Brick, the plan is going well now that Mike is freaking out about losing his wallet. The only problem is that Brick has actually lost the wallet, so he steals his dad's keys to cover up losing the wallet. Axl is pissed because Brick is ruining his perfect plan. When Mike goes to mow the lawn he calls Brick, after finding the bookmark in the engine.

Luckily, Brick just found the wallet and keys in his pockets so he has his get out of jail free card. As his dad starts to yell at him, Brick pulls out the wallet and Mike quickly forgets about the lawnmower. Now that he has his wallet back, the whole family starts to go through it.

They realize that in addition to Frankie's picture Mike has his high school girlfriend's picture in his wallet, too. Plus, there are a ton of pictures of the boys and none of Sue. The most important thing they discover is the death napkin, with Frankie and Mike's will on it.

As soon as the death napkin comes out Sue freaks out about the future and starts to fight with Axl. The napkin falls into the large bowl of milk on the table and then the kids force their parents to create a new will. When they ask them what they want, no one says anything, which is typical of the Heck kids.

In the final moments, Sue has to perform her bamboo routine in order to pass the class. She starts to dance to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," and she nails it. She gets a B+ and passes the class!
