U2 frontman Bono has had a week to forget; first a door flies of his private jet and now the singer has been involved in a  crash that means his band will have to cancel a week's worth of shows for NBC's The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. The "With Or Without You" singer was reportedly riding his bike in New York City's Central Park and crashed severely enough that the Irish rocker will need surgery on his arm, meaning he and his band have had to pull out of their residency to promote new album Songs Of Innocence this week.

Saying in a statement released on the band's website, Bono's bandmates The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr said: "It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time - we're one man down.

"Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding."

As The New York Times reports, no replacement act has been announced yet. The band had asked fans fans to submit videos of themselves lip-syncing the band's song "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" which was to be used during the Tonight Show appearance, reports E!. U2 were Jimmy Fallon's first musical guests when he took the reins for The Tonight Show in February.

Fallon took to twitter to confirm the reports.

Bono and the band had just arrived in New York having recorded their parts for the new Band Aid single, "Do They Know It's Christmas", marking the fourth iteration of the single Bono has been involved with. The 2014 version will be used to raise money in the fight against ebola, and has just been premiered; it goes on sale tomorrow.

It comes after an incident last week where the Irish frontman's private jet lost a rear hatch door as it was traveling on from Dublin to Berlin. As NBC report, though, no one was injured.
