There was a time when waterboarding was known as a horrid practice used by the United States government (as well as other administrations) to get information out of detainees and foreign prisoners who were seen as threats. Apparently, it's now hit home because a St. Louis mother named Lakechia Stanley, 34, was recently sentenced to 78 years in prison for not only waterboarding her three children, but also torturing them in other ways.

According to the Huffington Post, Stanley was charged with over 30 counts related to child abuse, which first came to light back in Oct. 2011. How the tortures were brought to the public eye was when Stanley's daughter, then 10-years-old, expressed that her arm was sore to her school's librarian. Why? Because her mother had apparently beaten her with a bat because the child did not clean the kitchen in a time Stanley deemed quick enough.

With that, the child noted that her sister, then 8-years-old, had also been beaten with a baseball bat. This situation, however, was for "taking too long in the shower," as HuffPost reports.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch claims that interviews with both girls showed "prolonged abuse" that consisted of the aforementioned bat-beatings on top of "waterboarding, whipped with electrical cords, forced into scalding or freezing showers, and beaten with an array of blunt objects."

The Post further reported that there was "significant scarring" on all three of Stanley's children.

While this case of abuse reports is solely about Stanley herself, KMOV.com claims that her 30-year-old husband, Andrew, was previously sentenced to 160 years in prison for child abuse-related charges.
