The Amazing Spider-Man franchise remains in total flux, but we know there are plans for a solo Venom movie. And one of the contenders who has thrown his name in the ring is...WWE Superstar Sheamus?

That's what the 36-year-old former WWE Champion, real name Stephen Farrelly, told Irish Central. "I always read comic books as a kid, I always remember Eddie Brock, who was Venom in the Spider-Man comics. He was kind of a red head. I'd love to play the role of Venom and Eddie Brock," the Dublin-born wrestler said. "Venom was one of my favorite characters. It would be a dream come true for me to star in the next Spider-Man film as Venom."

It may sound ridiculous on the surface at first, but consider that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson started in the ring and transitioned to a wildly successful movie career. Dave Bautista just starred in one of the biggest comic book movies of the year (and biggest movies overall), Guardians of the Galaxy. So it's not totally out of the question that Sheamus could pull this off. He'd of course have to drop his heavy Irish accent.

Sheamus added Michael Fassbender, Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman are the people with whom he'd most like to work.

The Venom movie, which some reports have said could be called Venom/Carnage, is apparently still on track despite the rocky foundation of the franchise. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 made more than $708 million at the box office but was still the lowest grossing Spider-Man movie ever. The film was met with mixed critical and fan reviews to the point that the future of the franchise is in doubt.
