Are we ready for the return of Mel Gibson after years of shame due to some anti-Semitic controversy? Well, some reports are claiming Hollywood is easing into this possibility with a new World War II film entitled Hacksaw Ridge, which the Braveheart actor might be directing. Perhaps adding some cushion to the fact that Gibson could direct the film is the addition of The Amazing Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield. Do you think Hollywood is ready for Gibson to get behind the director's chair once more?
According to Slash Film, this would be the first film that Gibson would direct since 2006's Apocalypto. We've seen him in front of the camera since his unfortunate downfall, in such movies like The Expendables 3 and The Beaver, but it should be mentioned that he's an acclaimed director. His film Braveheart won him an Oscar for Best Director and Best Film (among others), so it would honestly be kind of a treat to have him directing again. Deadline broke this movie news, also pointing out that producers are courting Gibson with a lot of discretion due to his past and his faltered celebrity.

Garfield would portray the main character, Desmond T Doss, "the first conscientious objector in U.S. history to win the Congressional Medal of Honor." The film will center on his life, which is right up Gibson's directorial alley! He enjoys telling stories of those that have to go through extreme hardships for what they believe in, ultimately prevailing.
