Before the first season of FX's The Strain makes its way onto DVD/Blu-Ray, casting is already taking place in the upcoming Season 2.  Based on the Dark Horse Comics adaption of his own vampire novels, visionary director Guillermo Del Toro is already planning to introduce two new characters for the series.

The series follows Eph (Corey Stoll) and Nora (Mia Maestro) as they discover a deadly vampire plague spreading across New York City. As they search for a cure, an old vampire hunter comes out of retirement to face off an ancient evil. They must work together to save the world from The Master.

As the first season came to a close, Eph (Stoll) saw the city of New York in the midst of ruins. Buildings were on fire, sirens were screeching into the night, and the streets thrived in chaos. The vampire epidemic has left Eph and his team powerless against The Master.

TV Line states actor Ron Canada (The West Wing) has landed the recurring role of the crisis-bungling NYC mayo. The casting director is also looking to add another series regular. David, an 11-year-old boy who must make a very difficult decision regarding his parents, who might be infected. Will David eventually meet with Eph's son, Zach (Ben Hyland)?

As we previously mentioned, the Devil's Backbone filmmaker also dropped a few hints about the second season, which seems to be based on book two of his The Strain trilogy,The Fall

Del Toro hinted, "We start with The Strain in November, and I'm going to be shooting a creature unit, the action unit, and I'm going to be shooting the Mexican luchador footage, the black-and-white footage that appears in the series."

We also reported on Maestro, who reveals Nora will become hardened, more of a person who's not afraid to die. With nothing left to lose, Nora will become more of a warrior.

The first season is heading to DVD and Blu-Ray. Bonus features include the behind-the-scenes videos, In the Beginning, A Novel Approach, and Setrakian's Lair.

The first season of The Strain lands on DVD/Blu-Ray on December 2, the perfect Christmas gift for a horror fan. Readers are you excited to meet these characters?
