Ariana Grande has taken the music industry by storm with her hit songs and performances, but one legendary diva is not a fan: Bette Midler! The "Break Free" singer took to social media to reply to the insult.

In an interview with U.K.'s The Telegraph, the "Divine Miss M" blasted young pop starts today, even using Ariana as an example, for being too sexy and provocative just for publicity when selling records.

"It's terrible!" she said. "It's always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch looking so ridiculous. I mean, it's silly beyond belief and I don't know who's telling her to do it."

The First Wives Club actress blamed the people around the pop star more for talking her into it.

"I wish they'd stop. But it's not my business, I'm not her mother. Or her manager," she exclaimed. "Maybe they tell them that's what you've got to do. Sex sells. Sex has always sold."

"Whatever strictures there were have fallen apart," she continued. "And now it's whatever you feel like doing you can do. I mean, apparently people really like to pretend they're having sex. They really like to slap each other's butts."

The Oscar-nominated actress wanted to give some advice to all young pop starlets out there trying to make a buck.

"Trust your talent," she urged. "You don't have to make a whore out of yourself to get ahead. You really don't."

Ariana took to Twitter trying to remind Bette of how she started in the business.

"Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgement! Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!!" she wrote. "Always a fan no matter what my love"

Do you think Bette went too far talking about the "Problem" singer?
