Taylor Swift is the on top of the music world after selling over 2 million copies of her album 1989 in less than a month and receiving a special achievement award at the American Music Awards, but the "Shake It Off" singer had everyone talking by using her acceptance speech against free streaming sites like Spotify.

In recent weeks, the pop superstar has been embroiled in controversy over her decision to take her music off of Spotify and let it be known with her thoughts at the AMAs.

"To the fans who went out and bought over a million copies of my last three albums, what you did by going out and investing in music and albums is you're saying that you believe in the same thing that I believe in, that music is valuable and that music should be consumed in albums and albums should be consumed as art and appreciated," she said next to the legendary Diana Ross, who presented her with the award.

As MStars News reported, Taylor has been in a heated back and forth with the CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek, over her perception that the streaming site basically gives away her music for free. He responded by saying she wouldn't be giving out her album for free, she would instead earn $6 million from the site.

"Here's the thing I really want artists to understand: Our interests are totally aligned with yours," he wrote on his company's website. "We don't use music to drive sales of hardware or software. We use music to get people to pay for music. The more we grow, the more we'll pay you. We're going to be transparent about it all the way through. And we have a big team of your fellow artists here because if you think we haven't done well enough, we want to know, and we want to do better. None of that is ever going to change."

Do you think free streaming sites like Spotify are good for the music business?
