Seems like Johnny Manziel can still make waves even while he's not playing football. Having barely made it on to the field during his rookie NFL season, the rookie Cleveland Browns quarterback is still causing plenty of headlines and headaches for the Cleveland front office, with this latest indiscretion taking place after 2.30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

ESPN is reporting that "Cleveland Police Department's report stated that Manziel was approached by a fan named Chris Gonos, who claims he was assaulted by the rookie quarterback and 'his entourage.'"

The incident, says ESPN, was reported to police "at 2:36 a.m. from the 'Metropolitan at the 9' hotel in Cleveland" with clevescene.com saying that police were called to "a fight involving 20 men and two security guards" at The 9.

Clevescene.com says that "33-year-old Sandusky resident Chris Gonos, reported to police that he and his girlfriend spotted Manziel while waiting for an elevator at the high-end apartment complex, where many Cleveland professional athletes live, and professed his love to the rookie quarterback."

ESPN reports that a member of Manziel's entourage named Dana Kirk explained to police that "the victim attempted to assault his client and he defended him." The police report also says that Gonos, the alleged victim, told police he was "assaulted by Johnny Football and his entourage" after approaching Manziel and saying, "I'm the biggest Browns fan ever, I love you, I want to give you a hug."

ESPN also shares that the police report says that Gonos "took one step toward whom he believed to be Manziel and got hit several times in the face by the offender."

Browns general manager, Ray Farmer, released a statement on the incident, reports CBSsports.com, saying that the team are looking into the matter.

"We are aware of the incident and are in the process of gathering additional information in order to gain a complete understanding of what occurred," Farmer's statement said. "Nonetheless, the time of the incident is concerning to us. We continually stress to all our players the importance of sound decision making in an effort to avoid putting themselves in these types of situations. We have addressed this appropriately with the player and will have no further comment at this time."

USA Today spoke to Gonos -- who was staying at the hotel for his brother's birthday -- and report him saying, "I went to give him a handshake, but before I could even do that, I was tackled by this dude." Gonos added that his brother was "sucker punched" by Manziel.

Continuing to speak to USA Today, Gonos added that he was "definitely shocked," and pointed out that he was born and lives in the Cleveland area. "I've seen other athletes before - usually they are flattered, say hi or smile. This was totally different," Gonos said of the incident.

As for his feelings for the backup quarterback of the 7-4 Browns, Gonos told USA Today that "It definitely changes how I feel about him. I mean, definitely. The guy is an immature kid. I'm 33 years old going up to a kid, giving my respect. A handshake, a high five."

Manziel, the former star quarterback at Texas A&M, was arrested in 2012 after a bar fight at College Station, Texas, though a "disorderly conduct by fighting" charge was dismissed as part of his guilty misdemeanor plea for not properly identifying himself to police.
