'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Casting Anastasia Steele: Katie Cassidy Up For the Role

Katie Cassidy is the newest celebrity supposedly up for the role of Anastasia Steele in the highly-anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James' best-selling novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey."

The 25-year-old actress and daughter of actor David Cassidy and model Sherry Williams has starred in two popular CW series, "Gossip Girl" and the reworked "Melrose Place." She also guest appeared on hit television shows including "Supernatural," "7^th Heaven," "Harper's Island," and "New Girl." The former cheerleader-turned-scream-queen also starred in a number of horror films including "Black Christmas," "When a Stranger Calls," and the newest rendition of "Nightmare on Elms Street."

Although Cassidy has had a variety of acting experience, her name is not too well-known or widespread in the fast-paced world of Hollywood, which could actually help her chances of snagging the erotic role of Anastasia Steele. It has been said that "Fifty Shades of Grey" filmmakers may want to cast a female not too recognizable for the part - especially someone not associated or connected to a specific/stereotypical type of role or image.

The ex-girlfriend of teen heartthrob Jesse McCartney turned some heads over the weekend in Canada, where she was photographed in a sheer white t-shirt which barely covered a curvy black bra. Cassidy's girl-next-store mentality along with this mysteriously sexy look could make her the perfect candidate for the role of Christian Grey's erotic lover.

Although Cassidy may be a new favorite to portray Steele, some fans have suggested that she would be a great choice to play Katherine Kavanagh, Steele's best friend and roomie who is the main reason Steele encounters the young and extremely wealth Grey in the first place.

Among the many names still being considered to play the coveted role of Anastasia Steele include Emma Watson, Emma Stone, and Lucy Hale.
