Alyson Hannigan is coming back to TV... but as a cartoon character. The How I Met Your Mother alum is opening up about her new role in Sofia the First and explaining why her two daughters might not see it.

We all know Alyson for her roles as Buffy's BFF, Willow Rosenberg, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and as Marshall's sassy wife, Lily Aldrin, in How I Met Your Mother and now she is showing off her animated TV self. Although Alyson is a perfect fit for an animated character, it was her former Buffy director Joss Whedon, who inspired her to portray a cartoon.

"I think Joss put it perfectly when he said, 'I feel like if we opened you up, a cartoon would just pop out,' " Alyson told People. "I think that's the most fitting description of me."

The American Pie alum will be playing Winter, a fawn who wishes for a special ability, in the new episode of Disney Channel's Sofia the First. Her episode will air on Dec. 12 for the network, but her daughters might not see their mom in her animated glory.

"My kids don't watch television yet," the mother of two explained. "It's probably getting to the point where we'll introduce it to Sati now. We were waiting for her to start begging us. She'll ask occasionally, but until recently she didn't know we had a television so it was a non-issue."

She continued, saying, "I think she was convinced for a long time that the only thing on television was either news or sports because when you go to restaurants that's what they're playing."

Alyson and her husband (who she met on Buffy), Alexis Denisof, have two girls together -- Satyana Marie who is five years old and Keeva Jane who is two years old. Although neither girl watches TV, but they have been on the How I Met Your Mother set many times, which is pretty awesome.

Are you excited to see Alyson back on TV?
