Award season is gearing up and the nominations for the 2015 Independent Spirit Awards were announced today (Nov 25) by Rosario Dawson and Diego Luna. Emma Stone's Birdman received a total of six nominations, including Best Feature and Best Director.

The Independent Spirit Awards puts a budget on its nominees as the film can't exceed a $20 million budget max for its feature nominees.

The Awards will be held in Santa Monica, California, on Feb. 21., a day before the 87th Academy Awards. Winners of the awards can be a true testament of who will go home with an Academy Awards win as proven when Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong'o and Jared Leto all took home an Academy Awards last year.
