Janay Rice, the wife of former Baltimore Ravens star running back Ray Rice, has spoken about the Feb. 15 incident in an Atlantic City hotel elevator that saw the NFL star initially suspended for two games, then placed on an indefinite suspension by the NFL, before being reinstated today.

Rice, in a first person account written for ESPN, explains that "never in my life have I seen abuse, nor have I seen any woman in my family physically abused."

In the piece (from an interview conducted on Nov. 5, before Ray was reinstated to the NFL today) Janay says she can't remember what the pair were "bickering" about earlier that night in a restaurant, but points out that the pair were indeed still fighting outside the infamous elevator. Janay then says that "As we were arguing, he was on his phone and not looking at me. I went to reach for his phone, and when he grabbed it back, he spit at me and I slapped him."

She also tweeted out a message of thanks today:

Janay goes on to say that the events that happened inside elevator are "still foggy" and that she slapped him again, but that's only because of what Ray had told her. "I remember nothing else from inside the elevator," she says.

After the two - who weren't married at the time - were arrested and the situation played out, the pair married on March 28, which happened to be the day after Ray was indicted for aggravated assault.

Janay explains that the pair couldn't go on the internet or watch TV for fear of seeing the horrific videos of the incident, and that the entire process left her wanting it to be over. Additionally, after Ray was released by the Ravens she was "surprised and angry", having assumed that the team had his back.

She does, however, not want to be known as a victim, saying that she still finds it "hard to accept being called a "victim." I know there are so many different opinions out there about me -- that I'm weak, that I'm making excuses and covering up abuse -- and that some people question my motives for staying with Ray."

She instagrammed on Nov. 19 a message for people judging her too:

Straight like that....✊

As TMZ point out, she's also taken the idea of being a martyr for domestic violence in stride, saying "If it took our situation becoming headline news to show domestic violence is happening in this country, that's a positive."

As for what she's learned from the entire situation, Janay says she's "Realized how strong" she was, and that her "Faith has gotten her through this".

With Ray being reinstated by the NFL today, he's now free to sign with any team that wishes to sign him. His wife is standing by him, but that didn't stop thousands taking to twitter to make their thoughts known.

As for his current status, as ESPN's Darren Rovell points out, it's hard to pinpoint where Ray could end up playing this year, but it will be interesting to see what happens regardless.

What do you think? Should a team pick up Ray Rice for the rest of the season? Or should they avoid the entire situation all together?
